Recently on June 12, 2022, the Mesquite Police Department notified the public of an incident where an adult male randomly walked up to a Yucca landscaping plant and lit the plant on fire.
The adult male was arrested after an investigation and thanks to the surveillance cameras that were present. The Yucca plant burned was located on the side of the 76 Gas Station across Mesa Blvd from Eureka Resort and Casino. Due to the trucking parking lot located at 200 Mesa Blvd., the area was fully secured with security cameras.
The suspect was identified by police and brought into custody a short time after the incident happened through the video footage from the security cameras. They also found the suspect had in his possession 2 grams of methamphetamine and 22 grams of heroin.
According to arrest and public records, the incident actually occurred on the 6th of June. The arrested suspect was identified as Landon D. Leavitt of Mesquite, Nevada. He was officially booked on June 6th at 23:28 hours.
Leavitt was charged with Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance of 14 Grams or More but Less than 28 Grams, Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance Less than 14 Grams: First or Second Offense, Third Degree Arson. All of these charges are felonies. He was also charged with a misdemeanor charge of Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
