The VVHS Bulldogs Baseball Team had to go 9 innings to obtain the retribution they were seeking against a very tough Pahrump Valley team on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 8-7. The retribution was sought after the Bulldogs suffered their worst loss of the season to Pahrump on March 25th, losing 11-0.
The #2 Mountain League seed of the Trojans came in determined to copy their previous matchup result, by jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Green and White jumped back into it scoring 2 in the bottom of the first. This led to a couple of more innings with no offensive movement on either side of the dugouts.
The Trojans then stormed the pound and added a massive hit to the Diamond Dawgs, scoring 4 runs. This time though the Bulldogs were unable to reply with any scores in the 5th inning.
However, the very next inning something clicked with the Bulldogs as the bats got cracking, mainly behind the kick-start of Bryce Intagliata. Other batters who helped the offensive kick-start during the 6th inning included Jared Jensen, Chandon Jensen, and Drake Wakefield. With their bats connecting, the Bulldogs were able to score four runs and come within one run of Pahrump after 6 innings, 7-6.
Mason Montoya was able to tie up the game in the seventh inning by stealing home off a wild pitch by the Trojans. This led to intense moments for the rest of the game as it went into extra innings with no scores in the 8th and heading into the bottom of the 9th, looking the same.
But the Bulldogs were determined to receive their retribution and end the game there as they were able to load the bases, where the Trojans met their fate when their pitcher walked Stratton Waite to score the winning run.
Intagliata pitched the first four innings, striking out 8 while Stratton Waite finished the game and picked up the win with 3 Ks.
Offensively, Bryce Intagliata batted .500, hitting twice and adding 1 RBI. While Drake Wakefield, Kyler Sudweeks, Mason Montoya, Braden Harris, and Kurt Felix all helped with the offense, by adding hits.
The semifinals for the Regional Playoffs are now set with the oldest rivalry in the state of Nevada, as the Bulldogs face off against Moapa Valley who surprised and downed the #1 Mountain seed Boulder City, 5-2.
The game is at 4:00 pm PST at VVHS Baseball Field today, Wednesday, May 11th. The campus of VVHS is located at 820 Valley View Drive, just up Hillside Drive in Mesquite.
The other games out of the Consolation Bracket had the following results on Tuesday. Boulder City will now play Clark who beat Western 14-8 while Pahrump will play SLAM Nevada who beat Eldorado 8-5 in the quarterfinals. The winners of those games will play each other on Thursday at 2 pm for the opportunity to play the loser of the Virgin Valley and Moapa Valley semifinals game in the other semifinal round in the Consolation bracket at 4:00 pm PST on Thursday.
Good luck to the Diamond Dawgs today against their rival, the Pirates. The Bulldogs have beaten the Pirates all three times previously played them, but not by much in the last two. On April 21st, they beat MVHS 6-4, and then on May 5th they had to go into extra innings to beat the Pirates 1-0 to win the Desert League.
