Virgin Valley High School, Mesquite, NV-

The VVHS Bulldogs Baseball Team starts their tournament play today at 4:00 pm PST, hosting as they are the top seed out of the NIAA 3A Southern Region Desert League, finishing up their regular season on a 10-game win streak.

They take on the #8 seed for the 3A Southern Region, Western High School. They have already played Western twice during the regular season. On April 19th, the Bulldogs beat the Warriors 13-4, and then on May 3rd, again beat the Warriors 14-3.

The rise to 1st place in the NIAA 3A Southern Region Desert League started way back after a crushing and heart-shattering loss to Pahrump High School on March 25, 2022. They were shut out 11-0.

“That was the wake-up moment for us,” said Head Coach Dan Wright shortly after the loss.

Since then the VVHS Bulldogs have gone 11-1 with a 10-game win streak. Their one loss was against Clark, 11-8 at the end of March.

During their 10-game win streak, they have outscored their opponents by 99. The Bulldogs have scored 124 runs while their opponents only scored 25 runs. The teams that have been the most challenging competition for the Bulldogs have been Eldorado and rival Moapa Valley. They beat Eldorado back on April 27th by a score of 5-2 after starting off behind in the game. Then played Moapa Valley twice both times claiming victory but only by small margins, 6-4 and 1-0.

The brackets for the regional playoffs have Moapa Valley set up to have a direct route to the Championship, but they will need to be cautious and ready to play their best as they will almost immediately play a team in the second round that has already beat them once. By beating Western today, they will either play Clark or Pahrump (most likely Pahrump). Then they also have Boulder City which has been dominating in league play as well as Moapa Valley Pirates who continue to play their best against the Bulldogs. The road will not be easy!

Again, the VVHS Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways as they look forward to the games that truly count as they take on Western High School today at 4:00 pm PST at the Virgin Valley High School Baseball Field, located at 820 Valley View Drive.

Go cheer on the Bulldogs as they go to take Regions and make State Championship Playoffs.
