The Ball Dawgs of the Boys Baseball Team looks to continue the high momentum that they had when Spring Break hit last week. They continue their season and have high hopes to continue their winning streak today as they travel to Western High in Las Vegas. The game starts today, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 3:30 pm PST.

They head off to the home of the Warriors on a 3 win streak and winning the last four of five games. Their only loss during the last five games was a closely contested game with Clark High School, 8-11.

The Dawgs have been rolling since they got thumped on by Pahrump Valley back on March 25th. They were blanked 0-11 in front of their home audience.

“We are doing much better,” said Head Coach Dan Wright. “Everyone is committed to being the best they can be. The boys have battled back, but one game at a time is our focus.”

They kicked off their highly skilled and victorious momentum on March 28th against Canyon Springs, beating them 20-1, then a hard-fought loss to Clark 8-11 on March 30th. They went right into their current winning streak, starting off burying the Sunrise Mountain Miners 11-0 on April 1st, then burning the Eldorado Sundevils 15-1, and smashing through the Desert Shields of Cheyenne 15-2 on April 7th right before the Spring Break.

The recent emergence of Kyler Sudweeks has been a blessing in disguise as he was in a slump for a couple of weeks. Against Eldorado, Sudweeks was 4 out of 4 at the plate with 4 RBIs and then another good performance against Cheyenne 1 of 2 at the plate and adding 2 runs himself.

The biggest story has been the defense of the baseball team as they have been near perfect. They had as a team a Fielding Percentage of 93.5% since losing to Pahrump Trojans. They had two perfect fielding games against Canyon Springs and Eldorado while their lowest FP game was in the loss against Clark but still was a good 83.9%.

Pitching-wise, they have had excellent showing from Kyler Sudweeks, Jared Jensen, Stratton Waite, Bryce Intagliata, Kurt Felix, Braden Harris, Matthew Hughes, and Martin Jordan. The pitchers have all had a total of 41 strikeouts in the five games.

The Baseball Dawgs (12-5) again look forward to extending their season wins record to 13 today at Western who sits at 4-7 for the season. Currently, the Dawgs sit in 2nd in the league with a 3-0 league record. They are right behind Moapa Valley where they play the Pirates this Thursday at VVHS starting at 3:30 pm PST. They beat Moapa Valley earlier in the season in a non-league tournament 7-0 during March.

“One game at a time,” said Coach Wright. “League games will be competitive and that is why we focus on one game at a time.”
