Reminiscent of Goonies and the Indiana Jones franchise, Uncharted is the 4th highest-grossing movie so far in 2022. It stars Tom Holland as Nathan “Nate” Drake and Mark Walhberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Uncharted is based on a video game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The games series was created by Naughty Dog for Sony PlayStation exclusively. It includes nine different games released between 2007 and 2017 including two spin offs and one expansion. Uncharted is the story of an orphaned boy, Nate, recruited by Sully to help find a treasure. It turns out to be the very same lost treasure of Magellan that Nate’s brother was trying to find when he disappeared. It starts with a map and a heist and turns into a globe-trotting race to discover the treasure before the merciless Moncada, played by Antonio Banderas. The film is full of twists and turns, even some that you don’t see coming. I found it entertaining with an easy-to-follow storyline.
It is interesting to note that the development of this movie began in 2008. In that adaption, Mark Walhberg was chosen to play the character of Nathan Drake. Needless to say, it did not come to fruition. When he was asked in 2018 to star in the movie again, he assumed he would still be playing Nathan Drake until Tom Holland’s name was brought up, and he finally realized he would be playing the older character now. Ouch! But, fourteen years later, his performance is spot on.
This movie is rated PG-13. Parents should be aware that the film does contain profanity, alcohol, drugs & smoking, sex & nudity, and violence.
