Yesterday, Friday, March 18th, the office of Congressman Steven Horsford had a representative from his office in Las Vegas, NV, available at the Mesquite Recreation Center to help Mesquite and local residents with any concerns or questions pertaining to such issues as veterans’ benefits, social security and medicare, immigration, federal worker injury compensation, tax matters, federal student loans, housing, and even small business concerns. The representative was a young, very well-educated, and informative man by the name of Ishmael Carroll.

“We want to make sure that the residents of Nevada, especially in Mesquite are getting helped and understand what is available for them,” said Carroll.

This opportunity for help is offered by Congressman Horsford and he has hired some of the best-educated people pertaining to these departments of the federal government. For issues and concerns with Veterans, he has Larry Hamm. Things concerning Housing and more, he has Ruby Scott. Lastly, he has Maggie Mora for immigration concerns. Along with these three District Representatives and professional specialists, he has multiple other educated, experienced, and eager professionals and interns to help Nevada citizens.

“Everyone is really good at what they do and ready to help whoever needs help,” stated Carroll.

Larry Hamm was hired last year as the Veterans expert as part of the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program, a program that provides opportunities for wounded or injured veterans to find employment within the United States Congress. Hamm is a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea in 2010 and Iraq in 2011. He was medically discharged in 2016 and then pursued a Bachelor’s in Social Work at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While at UNLV, he served as a practicum student with the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention.

Ruby Scott became part of the Constituent Services team in October of 2020 and as an expert within non-profit public services, she has years of experience working with those who need help with issues such as workers comp, social security, housing, and more. Before joining Congressman Horsford’s team, she was the Benefit Services Outreach Manager for Three Square Food Bank and also had been the SNAP E&T Program Director for AmeriCorps VISTA.

Maggie Mora has been involved in the legislative field since February of 2017. She has served as the Immigration Services Director since November of 2021 and also as a District Representative for the US House of Representatives under Steven Horsford and Nevada Representative Ruben Kihuen. She has become a huge advocate for immigrants and helping those who have gotten entangled in the web of the intricate and complex immigration system. Before getting into the legislative field, she worked in business consulting and finance consulting.

 

 

These professional “helpers” and District Representatives are always ready to help residents of Nevada who have questions or concerns regarding any of the above-mentioned constituent services that concern the welfare of US citizens and permanent residents.

“We were able to answer multiple questions and help quite a few residents today,” said Ishmael Carroll. “We hope that we can hope those who need help here in Mesquite. We are always willing to help.”

The representatives of Congressman Steven Horsford were here from 10:00 am through 2:00 pm. Carroll said they don’t have another time scheduled to be here yet, but they will be back shortly.

“Everything is according to when the schedule allows, but we will for sure be back to help out and in meantime, they can contact us at our office in Las Vegas or keep up to date by following Congressman Horsford’s social media or website,” explained Carroll.
