“Our competition was amazing and the girls killed!”

Head Coach Erica Garrett was unbelievably proud of the team and how well they performed.

“It could not have gone better,” said Garrett. “The girls worked hard for it and it paid off.”

The event took place during one of the busiest weekends in Las Vegas during the NASCAR Pennzoil 400 race and Race Jam.

With sports, music, and dance on the calendar, the event was highly attended and very competitive bringing some of the best of dance teams from around the nation.

The VVettes competed in and placed in 4 events: Lyrical, Pom, Military, and Character. They placed 3rd in Lyrical and Pom. They took 1st in the Military and Character. They got the special award of the Judge’s Choice for the Character Dance they performed. The award goes to the best performance of the night for that category. They performed a dance based on the soundtrack of the movie “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer.

“Our Top Gun Dance was spot on and the crowd and judges loved it,” stated Garrett.

The girls got a special treatment of trophy hardware to bring back and also a fun trip to the “Michael Jackson: One” show in Las Vegas.

Now with the big national competition being out of the way for this year, the girls will be focusing on performing their award-winning dances for the residents of Mesquite and family and friends. This Saturday at 6:30 pm within the VVHS Gym they will be performing their annual Review.

Along with their Review, they will also be doing try-outs for the next school year at the end of this month. There will be a mandatory informational meeting with parents and participants on March 14th at 6:00 pm at the VVHS Brotherson Gym (Old Gym). The dates for the try-outs clinics are March 22nd-24th from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The actual try-outs will be March 25, 2022, at 6:00 pm and will continue until the try-outs are finished.
