Wait and trust are the two hardest words to put into practice. But, until we learn to wait and trust in the Lord, we won’t be victorious in the attacks Satan launches against us.

Consider Saul, and man chosen by God to be king over Israel. For a while, things were going swimmingly. But then came the pivotal point that all of us must face, will we wait on God and trust in Him that He will take care of it, or will we take matters into our own hands.

The story is found in 1 Samuel 13. The Philistines had gathered to wipe out Israel.

The prophet Samuel asked Saul to wait seven days until he arrived to offer the sacrifice, but Saul couldn’t wait any longer because the army was deserting. So, he disobeyed and offered the sacrifice. And as soon as he did Samuel arrived and rebuked Saul for not keeping God’s word.

As soon as Saul made the decision not to wait and trust, his life took a sharp downward dive.

Now this is a hard call. Do we wait and do nothing while the enemy is amassing his forces against us? And the answer is yes, because waiting on the Lord is not the same as doing nothing. It’s called trusting.

God knows what we are going through. He sees the problems pressing and knows our anxious and worried thoughts. But when we learn to wait and trust in God, then God will be our refuge and safety.

“Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 63:8).

And in Proverbs 3:5-6 it says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”

And so, when we are faced with a crises, let’s take it to the Lord and wait, trusting that He will not only hear us, but will also give us the answer we need.

So instead of doing nothing, wait and trust in the Lord.

  1. (Dennis, I posted this for Debbie) I find that the more we try to take matters into our own hands in the midst of a crisis, it never ends up well. We only ended up accelerating the stress we are already under and falling flat on our faces. I love the scripture reference mentioned here in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” However, I would also like to add verse 7, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.” Whenever we trust in our own instincts, we succumb that much more to temptation and ruin the victory that we would receive had we only trusted God in the first place and been obedient to Him.

    1. Thank you Debbie for this word of encouragement you give for others. And thank you Nick for posting this for her. Take care and God bless
