Mesquite, NV –

It has been two years since the last time the Virgin Valley VV-ettes Drill Team has done this fundraiser.

“We are so looking forward to this so much! We are so excited for this,” said VV-ettes Head Coach Erica Garrett.

Coach Garrett announced yesterday to the Virgin River Times in an interview, the upcoming Mini-Drills Fundraiser Event that will be happening during the week of January 19-22, 2022. The event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the VV-ettes, but involves community youth and gives them a unique experience in performing for the community during the half-time of a high school basketball game. All dances will be age-appropriate.

“The youth sign up and come for practices January 19th-21st. They learn a set drill performance and dance routine where they then perform it on January 22nd during the half-time of the Boy’s Basketball Game,” summarized Garrett.

The cost of participating in this is $20 which includes a custom VV-ettes T-Shirt. The practices will be held on January 19th, 20th, and 21st from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm inside the Virgin Valley High School Student Center at the campus of VVHS, 820 Valley View Drive. The performance will be on Saturday, January 22nd during the half-time of the VVHS Boys Basketball game which starts at 10:30 am in the gymnasium. Check-in for the participants is at 10:00 am at the Student Center. The mini-drills are open to boys and girls 3 years old to 8th grade. Registration Forms will be sent home from schools with the kids or participants can register at the first practice on the 19th.

“We are super excited and this will be fun for the kids,” said Garrett. “It is a chance for the kids to be able to get out and have fun!”

The VV-ettes are led by Head Coach Erica Garrett, Assistant Coach Judy Johnson, and Team Captain Maya Solis-Stokes. There are 19 girls on the VV-ettes, ranging from grades 9-12. Head Coach Garrett is originally from Cedar City, Utah, and has been always dancing since she was 3 years old. She mainly dances in tap, jazz, and ballet. She now is a nurse for Mesa View Home Care.

“I always have loved working with youth,” said Garrett. “Kids are GREAT!”

The VV-ettes will use the funds from this fundraiser to help pay for costuming and needs for performances. They also have two major performance competitions coming up during the 1st weekend and 2nd weekend of March. The competitions during the weekends of March 4-5, 2022 and March 11-12, 2022 are open to the public. The location and times will be announced later.

“I just want to thank everyone in our community for supporting us as well as having a great administration to work with,” said Garrett. “None of what we do would work without them all.”
