The Bible says, “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2)

By faith in Jesus Christ, we now have access into God’s grace. What is interesting is that this makes grace a position in which we are brought into and placed. This is brought out by the word “access,” which means to bring, move, introduce, or to present.

The thought is that we are being presented and introduced to God and His amazing grace by none other than Jesus Christ. And wasn’t it Jesus who said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9)

Further, we stand in God’s grace. Often, when we enter into the presence of God, we’re humbled and bowed down, which is right and proper. But at the same time, we stand, not thinking we’re something special, but rather because our shame and guilt have been taken away through faith in Jesus Christ. Because He took away our sin we can now stand in confidence having His righteousness.

Therefore, we can have hope, not that something will happen, but rather the assurance and confidence that this is a sure thing.

So instead of becoming discouraged and defeated, we can have real hope, the assurance of dwelling in the glory of God’s presence forever. And it is in that hope we rejoice.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.” (Revelation 21:3)

Therefore, Jesus Christ is our hope, and it is therefore in this hope that we rejoice.

  2. As I read this, in regards to entering into the presence of God, I am reminded of Hebrews 4:14-16, “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This is such a precious reminder that as we come into God’s presence, it is truly because of Jesus Christ and what He did for us upon the cross for our salvation that our hope is in. We no longer have to depend on man. That is what makes being in God’s presence such a joy and reassurance. As long as we always place our hope in Jesus, nothing will ever shake us.

    1. Linda, thank you, and what I love is how God continually opens up for us new avenues for His grace to be experienced every day.
