10 Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things?
In the King James Version of the Bible, the Greek term translated as ‘master’ actually means, ‘instructor, doctor, or teacher.’ Nicodemus was a very educated individual when it came to religious issues, but he had no clue what Jesus was talking about.
Nicodemus’ connection with God was only theoretical. He knew a lot about God, but he had never met him. Nicodemus was intrigued by Jesus’ unique relationship with God. Jesus is the son of God. This went against Nicodemus’ worldview.
Jesus’ familiarity with God was not learned by man, yet He understood God in a manner that theologians and seminary graduates of His era could not. When Christ informed Nicodemus that the only method to really know God was through a born-again experience, he was astonished.
The born-again experience is the most distinguishing characteristic of Christianity. We don’t just subscribe to a different theology than others.
When I was a young man, I came to faith in Jesus Christ not because of theological arguments, or because of spiritual rituals. I came to Christ because I met people who were born-again and it was obvious that they had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
It was that difference that caused the light bulb to come on in my life.
We are the fruit of a heavenly conception. Jesus is living in our hearts, and we have Him. Christianity is not a religion; it’s a relationship with God as your father. When confronted by someone who has an argument, a born-again individual is never at a loss because he or she has God as their father.
