Luke 2:11
New Living Translation
11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
Jesus did not become Lord and Savior over time. He was born as such. Jesus was God made manifest in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16). What a wonderful mystery!
How could God, who is all-knowing and all-powerful, limit Himself to being a human? And in doing that, how could He possibly begin his life as an infant? These issues go beyond the capabilities of man to comprehend.
‘But will God really live among men on earth? Behold, heaven and the heavens above can’t contain you; how much less this house I have constructed!,’ Solomon exclaimed at the dedication of the first temple.’(2 Chr. 6:18) The body of a tiny baby is far smaller!
The fact that God is a spirit is part of the solution. Spirits are not bound by time or place (Jn. 4:24). Jesus was the eternal God who created the universe in His spirit form. That body was simply Jesus’ ‘earth suit,’ which He utilized to reveal Himself to humans. All of Jesus’ divine qualities could be placed in that body.
This is still somewhat difficult to comprehend, but it helps us grasp how Christ may dwell in us as believers (Col. 1:27). If the whole glory of God could be contained within the physical body of Jesus, then all of God’s fullness can dwell in us as well (Jn. 1:16).
When we come to understand that, it changes our lives and the way we approach our Christian faith. No longer is it us that is living this life, but Christ in us and He gives us the power to overcome. (Gal. 2:20)
Today, believe that Christ dwells in you.
Blessings!
